The 19th president of the University of Louisville has been chosen, and her name is Kim Schatzel. She is a renowned leader with extensive business and higher education expertise.

The University of Louisville Board of Trustees chose to name Schatzel at a special meeting on November 30. Schatzel has led Towson University (TU), one of the 12 schools that comprise the University System of Maryland, since 2016. She also teaches marketing.

Measures promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion have already been promoted by Schatzel as priorities. At Towson University, which enrolls around 20,000 students and emphasizes affordability, accessibility, and inclusive student performance, she is commended for building a strong academic reputation.

A 6-year graduation rate of 72% makes Towson University the second-highest performer in the University System of Maryland. Black, Latinx, and Pell-eligible students graduate from TU at the same rate as the rest of the student population, making it one of the few colleges in the nation to do so. 57% of its pupils declared themselves to be underrepresented minorities in 2022.

Schatzel belongs to the Presidents’ Trust of the Association of American Colleges and Universities as well as the Presidents’ Alliance on Higher Education and Immigration (AAC&U). For her efforts in increasing diversity and inclusion at TU, Maryland’s Associated Black Charities named her their “Champion for More in the Middle” in 2017.
